30,000 Shards of Glass

The 38-foot wide dome above the south room of Chicago’s Cultural Center made of 30 thousand pieces of Tiffany glass, most shaped as fish scales. This room originally used to be the reading room of Chicago’s public library (before it was relocated down to State St). This artwork is magnificent.

I need to get back one day and take some shots of the North room, whose ceiling dome is even bigger than this one, made of 50 thousand glass pieces, executed in neo-renaissance style.
