Storm On The Horizon

ISO 200 | f/8.0 | 1/400th | IR 590 nm

Yep, this should have been a panorama. This post has sat in my drafts queue for a good while and though I like it and will probably print the photograph, there is this ordinary aura about it. It’s serene, has inherent beauty, yet there’s a smidge of boredom and ordinary grey normalcy in it.

As the days go by and I look at it repeatedly I know in my gut this should have been a series of at least 5 exposures panning across the landscape. I came to this exact spot many times since and the lighting conditions were never particularly favorable (bleak skies and waves on water).

So, I’m filing this one in the “live’n’learn” category and count it as a good teaching opportunity. I almost took those shots, but didn’t. Yet another reminder that there is no such thing as too many shots taken. I’m talking digital, of course. Film? That’s a whole other ball of wax…

  1. I don’t think this frame has any hint of boredom, or normalcy at all, Jiri. And its contrast is superb. Depends what you like of course. But I see nature under alternative light as an opportunity to appreciate the beauty of such places or scenes through light normally unseen. That is the true contrast. This is a beautiful capture!
