Like any other city, parking in Chicago is sometimes hectic and banged up and scratched bumpers are a natural byproduct of that culture. Disclaimer: does not apply to the cars in this picture (they’ve dutifully paid), but as I walk around the city, sometimes I come across cars who have entire stacks of orange envelopes full of unpaid parking tickets under their wiper blades. You can tell they’ve never been opened, because the envelopes are glued together by being repeatedly rained on, likely for months, and some leave a residue on the windshield, so you can tell that the person actually ran the wipers with the envelopes underneath? Umm… using parking tickets to wipe your windshield?
I think the record settlement I’ve ever heard of was north of $100k. A head scratcher indeed.
